How to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

December 9th, 2009

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is actually easier than most people realize. It starts with the right mindset – and once you have that mindset, once you care about how you live your life and what you put into your body, it’s easy to make the right choices.
Learning how to maintain a healthy lifestyle begins with the recognition that healthful behavior begins in the mind. The right mindset makes a considerable difference in successfully adopting healthier habits.

Mind-Body Connection

The mind-body connection is a significant factor to consider as you develop new patterns of habit that include following healthy eating guidelines as well as adopting regular regular exercise. Behavior is a manifestation of thought. When you begin to change your patterns of thought, your behaviors naturally follow.

Unhealthy Thought Patterns

Health Life styleHarmful patterns of thought can have a direct impact on your progress. Unhealthy fad diets are prime examples of programs that reflect some of the damaging theories about weight loss and lifestyle habits. Some thinking patterns that can interfere with healthful decisions include:

  1. Diets are temporary. A diet, by definition is a way of life. The term comes from the Latin diatea, literally meaning “manner of living”. Dietary changes should involve permanent changes in lifestyle in order to ensure proper maintenance.
  2. The desire to lose weight quickly can be detrimental because the process feeds into the cycle of overeating and under-eating. The cycle is harmful on a physical and on a psychological level.
  3. Unhealthy foods are good. While processed, sugary and fatty foods can be delicious, they can lead to health problems if you eat too many of them.
  4. Unhealthy foods are bad. No food is inherently good or bad. Denying yourself an occasional treat is unrealistic and it can lead to binge eating in some cases.
  5. Too many changes at once can ultimately lead to failure.

How to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle may require change. With the right strategy, you can make the necessary changes. Some strategies take a little time to develop but you may be dealing with habits that have been in place for many years.

Goals and Objectives

Set realistic goals and objectives organized in small steps. Behavioral changes are difficult, especially when habits have been practiced for a considerable time. It helps to have short-term goals that lead to a primary objective. For example, instead of focusing on losing 50 pounds, you can focus on losing 2 pounds per week.

Small increments are more tolerable than great leaps. Breaking tasks down into small, doable steps leads to accomplishments that build on one another until you reach your main objective. Consider some small changes in lifestyle that can help.

  • Activity
    • Use the stairs instead of the elevator
    • Park you car father away from stores, offices or other buildings you visit
    • Take a brisk walk around the block after dinner
    • Play outside with children
    • Start your day with a long stretch and a deep breath
  • Dietary
    • Replace afternoon coffee or soda with green tea
    • Add more vegetables and less meat to you favorite dinner recipes
    • Put your eating utensil down after each bite
    • Have dinner salad on a large plate and the main course on a small plate
    • Prepare quick, healthy snacks in advance
    • Use mustard instead of mayonnaise
    • Drink a glass of water before each meal

Type 2 Diabetes Diet With Healthy Food Plan Can Reverse Diabetes

November 23rd, 2009

With obesity levels being at an all time high, the epidemic of type 2 diabetes is growing at an alarming rate, and will only get worse. Between 2001 and 2002, the diagnosis of diabetes went from 5.5 percent of Americans to an alarming 6.5 percent. In just one year! It has continued to increase during the past 10 years at an increasing rate.

Overall, twelve million Americans have been diagnosed and another 5 million Americans have diabetes and don’t know it. And yet another 12 millions are on their way to type 2 diabetes because of impaired glucose levels. To reverse diabetes type 2 diet and exercise can benefit millions of suffering individuals battling the illness. Not knowing is the worst because risks of untreated diabetes type 1 puts a person at a terrible risk of complications including but not limited to blindness, amputations and ultimately death.

The stickler is, that type 2 diabetes is almost completely preventable. Doctor’ say eat less, eat better and exercise. The statistics confirm that there is an epidemic of overeating in America. Portions of food have significantly increased over the past 30 years so that daily caloric intake has risen dramatically. Ultimately, a healthy body weight means control of caloric intake. Using organic foods in the right combination is a natural diabetes treatment that can reverse the symptoms.

Statistically, people are now living longer, and it has been on the rise for years. But this will not continue if type 2 diabetes is not put under control. We are a gluttonous society and ultimately it is affecting how we live and how long we live. And unfortunately, the diabetes epidemic is not just a US problem. It is spreading worldwide with epidemic reports in Asia, the Middle East and the Caribbean.

It is estimated that by 2025, the number of diabetics worldwide will rise to 380 million. And diabetes is now affecting more of the young and middle-aged population in developing countries between the ages of 40 and 59. To reverse diabetes type 2 through healthy eating and living style can be accomplished and is key in reversing this trend.

All too often we get sick but ignore the symptoms we may be feeling, shrugging them off to a cold, stress from work, or just not feeling well. There are certain symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored if they develop. These symptoms could lead to blindness, amputation of limbs, coma or even death.

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes often come on suddenly and are severely dramatic. The extra stress of diabetes can lead to something called diabetic ketoacidosis. Symptoms of ketoacidosis may include nausea and vomiting, which may also lead to dehydration and serious problems with the blood levels of potassium. This could lead to a diabetic coma and ultimately death. Other symptoms of diabetes may include extreme fatigue. We all get tired at times, but diabetes triggers a more severe fatigue than normal. That is why it is essential to follow an appropriate type 2 diabetes diet.

People with diabetes also experience unexplained weight loss. This is because they are unable to process many of the calories they consume. Losing sugar and water in the urine also contributes to the weight loss. Extreme thirst is another symptom of diabetes. Diabetes develops high blood sugar levels and the body tries to compensate by diluting the blood, which translates to our brain that we are thirsty.

With this is also excessive urination. It is another way our bodies have of getting rid of the extra sugar in our system. But this can also lead to dehydration. This is why it is so important to get a healthy diet with an exercise program that can reverse the effects of these symptoms.

One of the hardest symptoms to deal with is poor wound healing. Wounds heal slowly, if at all when the carrier has diabetes. This along with infections that are not easily remedied can attribute to ulcers and loss of limbs. This is a very cruel aspect of severe diabetes. A type 2 diabetes diet can reverse diabetes with a consistent program of healthy diet with the right foods and increased exercise to help lose weight.

I have been interested in the possibilities of reversing type 2 diabetes naturally and have learned so much from professional sources. I can apply the techniques I have learned into real life situations. I found an amazing resource that you can can use to reverse your type 2 diabetes here at Natural Diabetes Treatment.Article Source:http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/type-2-diabetes-diet-with-healthy-food-plan-can-reverse-diabetes-1494325.html

Nutritious Diet For Weight Loss and Better Health

September 17th, 2009

Healthy mind rests in healthy body. Yes, this is a proven saying that if you have a fit and balanced body then only you will be at the charm and peace of your mind. To lose weight or shed off those extra pounds of fat, it is not at all necessary that one has to go on dieting and later starving, but, it actually means intaking a healthy and balanced diet, that contains sufficient amounts of all the nutrients required by us. As none of a single food is suffice of fulfilling all our requirements so, one should take a good variety of diet from across all the food groups, according to our daily needs and age. Different types of foodstuffs when taken together provide us with vitamins, minerals, salts, proteins, fibers etc. For maintaining a good and healthy body, one has to make a very wise choice regarding the food to be eaten and should also consume it with a happy mind.

Now lets schedule our menu for the most important plates of our day. After fasting for the whole night of about 6- 7 hours our body becomes almost empty. At this point of time we need to break up our fast and reenergize ourselves with a meal called as breakfast. But people with an intention to lose weight have a very fake belief that skipping their breakfasts will make them slim. Instead it will make you thaw on the next meal that you will take and you will probably do overeating and will finally end up putting on much more weight. But rightly saying one should take a very healthy breakfast and then if you are not in a mood you may skip the lunch.

Do not skip meals:

A nutritious breakfast comprises of stuffs like skimmed milk or yoghurt, boiled egg, cereals and oats, roasted and baked grain cookies, popcorn and of course fruits which are alone even more than enough to give you a delicious breakfast or lunch. People always give the excuse of running short of time for skipping their meals, but it is not so. In 10 minutes you can get yourself a sandwich of whole grain bread, with lots of tomatoes and cucumbers inside alongwith cheese or yoghurt instead of jellies and butter.

You can also have a ready to eat bowl of cereals or oat dipped in low fat, skimmed milk with fruits of your choice on the top. You can also do some preparation from last night like boiled eggs, sprouts or pulses etc. that will give you strength from within. Even for kids you can give a bowl of cut carrots, cucumbers, bananas or apples dipped in yoghurt or cream, which will be really worth.

There is a whole range of fruits like apples, avocados, peaches oranges grapes watermelon etc. They can form 60% of our diet any time. Fruits like oranges; sweet lemons and grapes are very good for losing weight. Apples, apricots and bananas give us minerals, vitamins and strength from deep within. Watermelon and peaches are good for beauty and are more effective in summer. For dinner you can always look forward to soups and pulses along with roasted chicken or leafy vegetables, thus keeping you full and fresh.

September 6th, 2009

Read How I Lost 45 Pounds with two simple steps

If your goal is to attain a healthy body weight, then it is vital to monitor your calorie intake. You may find some useful guidelines in this article relating to balanced diet and healthy eating.

A high calorie intake with little exercise will lead to weight gain.

What is a balanced diet?

You will be able to achieve a balanced diet through a regimented intake of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, mineral salts, and fibre. For a healthy body weight, you have to take correct proportions and increase regular physical activity.

  • Carbohydrates are considered as the main source of energy
  • Proteins, allow you to build muscle for growth and repair
  • Fats are important as some of these contain fat soluble vitamins
  • With mineral salts, your teeth, bones, and muscles are strengthened
  • Fibre is important as it corrects the functioning of your intestines

How a balanced diet helps to maintain body mass index (BMI)?

Maintaining a balanced diet will help you attain weight loss. Eating healthily and exercising regularly will enable you achieve a good body shape. This can help you keep a check on your obesity levels, which can be measured with the help of body mass index (BMI).

Most doctors will take BMI into account when examining a patient. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in metres squared of a patient. If the BMI of a patient is:

  • Less than 18.5, it is considered as underweight
  • Between 18.5-25, it is considered to be a good body weight
  • Between 25-30, it is considered to be overweight
  • Between 30-40, it is considered to be obese
  • Above 40, it is considered to be very obese

Balanced diet and regular exercise

Overeating will have detrimental effects upon your health and lead to weight problems. To combat this, you must eat a variety of foods. Nowadays; people make unhealthy lifestyle choices, increasing their intake of junk food. However, consuming more fruits, grains, legumes and vegetables will undoubtedly have a positive effect.

Try to cut down on portion size and keep it moderate especially when consuming high calorie food. Ordinarily, the trend in restaurants is to serve large portions, however you should try to avoid supersized portions of food.

While selecting your diet, try to limit the intake of food containing high levels of sugar, salt, or refined-grain products. Once you have begun your healthy diet, try to combine it with regular physical activity for more effective results.

A fundamental dieting tip concerning healthy eating is to monitor your diet.

  • Try to eat slowly so that you get the time to chew food properly. When we rush meals we lose the ability to taste it.
  • You should be relaxed while eating food. If you stressed, it can affect the digestion process
  • You should avoid overeating once you are full
  • Never skip breakfast
  • You should eat healthy and small meals throughout the day

The Easy Route to Healthy Weight Loss

May 19th, 2009

For many people, weight loss is a harsh and difficult process. The time we spend figuring out how to approach weight loss can be discouraging enough. With thousands of different diets available via the internet, it can be rather difficult for the average consumer to figure out which weight loss plan works the best. In order to resolve this issue, in this article I will list several tips which make weight loss easy and effective.

  1. You have to exercise regularly. Weight loss is impossible without physical activity; any diet plan which claims that you don’t have to exercise and you will lose weight is nothing more than a scam. Physical activity increases your metabolic activity, helps you build muscle and burn extra calories.
  2. Healthy nutrition is also a vital part of weight loss. You must be able to say no to fast food, fried food, sodas, and any other calorie laden foods. You should consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, beans, seeds, lean meats, whole grains, and low fat dairy.
  3. Do not skip meals. Some people think that by skipping meals they are consuming fewer calories. False! When you skip a meal you are only setting yourself up for snacking and overeating at your next meal.
  4. Add protein and fiber into every meal. These two food groups help you feel full longer because our bodies take longer to digest them. so be sure to include these two food groups in ever meal.

These are just a few tips towards easy and effective weight loss. Aside from healthy nutrition and exercise, some consumers have also fond various herbal remedies helpful. Supplements such as all natural diet pills and whey protein shakes have proven effective at suppressing the appetite and minimizing the intake of calories.
