Getting on the road to greater health with Maqui berries

Maqui berry is a berry that is found in the southernmost region of South America, known as Patagonia. This area includes Argentina and Chile and is one of the most fertile regions in the whole world. It is probably because this land is so fertile that the Macqui berry which grows there is one of the greatest tasting fruits you will ever encounter. Our body needs food for energy. Fat is the excess energy stored by our body. If you eat more than is necessary for cell maintenance you will put on weight. Thus for effectively losing weight, you should reduce the amount of calories you eat and increase the activity levels. I have always tried to lose weight using the Hilton Head Metabolism Diet. While it works, I was always left feeling very hungry. The South Beach Diet was recommended to me by several friends. I have 40 pounds to lose after giving birth to twins. The first week of this diet was hard because I was more addicted to sugar than I realized. I felt sluggish and had dark circles under my eyes. After the first week, I felt outstanding. I have more energy and have not felt the need to “cheat” once. I’m not a fish eater but I still find this easy to follow. My favorite recipe is the Turkey Meatloaf. I’m starting the 4th week and have lost 10+ pounds (in all the right places). This book has taught me how to eat better.

Pros: The book has an added exercise section which is very good. The “Supercharged” version also does an excellent job discussing the paradigm shift necessary in our eating habits. The new book combines the power of the original South Beach Diet and its carb-restrictive recipes with the added component of exercise which helps pump up the metabolic rate. As a cooking site owner I am always looking for new, healthier alternatives to those ‘less than totally healthy’ recipes that we love so much. Kudos to Dr. Agatston for another fine book in the series.

I thought this updated version of the earlier book was much clearer and easier to follow. I like the exercises that are included, especially the fact that they are very doable. If you are ready to get your act together, you will appreciate this book.
